On Campus, At the Gym or In Public
- Secure your gym or school locker with a Master Lock Password Plus™ combination lock, where you customize the passcode to something easy for you to remember. Choose your color at Masterlockitup.com.
- At the gym, choose a locker close to traffic and visible from the showers or the gym itself. Avoid lockers in isolated locations, with no visibility from the public areas.
- Keep a safety device on you at all times, like pepper spray or a personal safety alarm system.
- Report suspicious people or activities to campus or local police.
- Check into your school’s safety program and, if available, use the escort service or provided transportation, especially at night.
- Don’t display large amounts of cash, jewelry, or expensive apparel, all of which are a theft target.
- Carry your purse in front of you and secure it tightly to your body. Evaluate if it’s necessary to carry one at all.
- When searching for off-campus housing, evaluate the environment during both day and night settings. Identify the location of emergency phones and note which nearby businesses are open late at night.
- Take a self defense class or practice what to do if you’re approached by a stranger.
